Welcome to Kindergarten!

I have been teaching kindergarten at Marcy since 2007 and I love it! Before coming to Marcy, I taught 1st-3rd grade for 9 years in North Minneapolis.

I am a wife and mother of 4 wonderful children, which keeps me pretty busy. I spend my free time going to my children's games (football, basketball, and baseball), coaching basketball for my daughter's team, and volunteering at church.

My hope and dream this year is that every child will love coming to school and develop a love for learning! I believe school should be so fun that they are sad when the weekend comes! (This does happen...maybe only in kindergarten!)  I love to teach and I love to have fun at school. I use singing, dancing, games, and art while teaching. I teach a new theme every couple of weeks that I implement into all content areas if possible.

I teach in small groups so that learning can be more individualized. This way I can get to know your child better! I use small groups during reading and math workshop. I love and need volunteers during this time, so if you are available to help please let me know!

It is very important to me to have parent-teacher communication. There are 2 ways to reach me: call before school starts (7:30-8:30) at 612-668-1020 or email me at joy.talso@mpls.k12.mn.us.  (my first choice)  I always check my email before school and during lunch.  I look forward to a wonderful year teaching your child. I know they are the most precious gifts you have!
