Welcome to room 108!  I am excited to start a new year with my wonderful 1st grade students!

I began teaching at Marcy Open School in Fall 2009 right after I completed my student teaching experience at Marcy. I have a Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education and Child Psychology and a Masters degree in Early Childhood Special Education, both from the University of Minnesota. I have a birth-grade 3 regular education teaching license and a birth-age 6 special education license.

Minneapolis is home now, but I grew up a die-hard Packer fan in Spring Green, Wisconsin. I thoroughly enjoy sitting with a good book, hot yoga, cooking, and spending time with my husband and two-year-old son.

My hope and dream is for my students to develop a growth mindset, do work they are proud of, and learn to take care of each other as a community. I truly believe the social curriculum is what creates a child's ability to succeed in an academic environment. I am passionate about teaching the whole child while getting to know your child's personal learning style. In a safe environment students are comfortable to make mistakes, gain stamina, and show effort within rigorous academics. Students in our classroom learn to cooperate, assert themselves, take responsibility, use self-control, and show empathy. We encourage kindness, tolerance, inclusion, and peace. We are going to have a great year!

I look forward to building relationships with your children to help them learn and grow this school year!

Rose O'Brien: Teacher candidate
Hello! My name is Rose O’Brien and I am so excited to be student teaching at Marcy this upcoming school year. I will be completing the University of Minnesota’s Initial Licensure and M.Ed program for Early Childhood Education and receiving a license in both Early Childhood and Elementary Education.

I graduated in 2016 with a Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education (also from the U) and have since worked at Head Start and the University of Minnesota’s Child Development Center. All in all I have worked in preschools for the past 7 years, I have loved it but I am so excited to make the jump into elementary!

In my free time I love going on walks or runs with my dog Ada and settling down with a good book.

I love watching young learners grow, and getting to know their unique and wonderful personalities. I can’t wait for what this school year will bring.
