March 10, 2017

Hello 110 Families,

Happy Friday! This week we studied the folk tales of the Ojibwe people and saw a preview of the play Annie that the older students are putting on this weekend and next.

Next week we have an assembly and will spend Friday morning with our big buddies. We are also starting a science unit on balance and motion. Also, Alex starts three weeks of being the lead teacher in the classroom.

We are organizing a field trip for March 24th. Look for the permission slip coming home in the Friday folders on 3/10.

A friendly reminder: We have two students in our class that have peanut allergies. Since we are now eating in the classroom, we are in tight quarters and we don’t want any accidental peanut reactions. Please don’t send any peanut products with your student. Thank you!

Have a great weekend,
Rachel Herder and Alex Schluender

What we’re doing in:

Reading: We are identifying and using text features. This includes making predictions using the contents page, reading dialogue and punctuation, and noticing changes in the print.  Reading groups are working on level-appropriate comprehension and word-decoding.

Math: We are continuing to work on our double-digit addition and subtraction. We have been using an empty number line as a strategy for doing so, and next week we will add a new one: Splitting! You can look forward to hearing more about it from your student.

Science: We are starting a new science unit: Balance and Motion. This introduction to physics will include a lot of hands-on experimentation and learning.  We will continue to observe and record in our science notebook.

Reminders
·      Fridays are tie-dye Fridays and students are encouraged to where tie dye to show Marcy Pride.
·      Please check your child’s Friday folder every week.
