Happy March!
Today is my son’s 8th birthday. He woke up and said his usual, “Will you snuggle me.” I said, “I’d love to snuggle my 8-year old boy.” He said, “Mom, technically I’m not 8 yet. I won’t be 8 until 8:13pm so really I have another day of being 7. Nothing is different yet.” Don’t you love the way kids think!
We had a great week. We started our Nutrition class with Midwest Food Connection. Ms. Kristi came in to tell us a legend of grains and introduce us to peppers, avocado, cilantro, and green onion. She made a tasty salsa and put it on a warm tortilla. We all tried it and almost every student ate the whole thing. You will see a letter with more information and the recipe on the back of that letter in your Friday folder.
Our week at a glance:
Reading: We finished our Dr. Seuss unit focusing on cause/effect, making text connections and comparing books. We will spend the next 3 weeks reading poetry and noticing the elements of poetry.
Math: We finished our unit on 3D shapes. We will assess students 1-on-1 next week while we begin our new unit on addition and subtraction. Please remember we focus on strategies to figure out addition and subtraction, not looking at an equation and being happy with just a right answer. A right answer doesn’t count if we can’t explain/illustrate how we figured it out!
Writing: We started writing cinquain poems this week on penguins. We will write many different poems over the next 3-weeks.
Social Studies: We are finishing up our unit on Goods and Services and will assess the students next week before we move into our geography unit.
Next week:
Monday: Art, media
Tuesday: Gym
Wednesday: Art, Nutrition class (Part 2 of a 4-week series)
Thursday: Gym
Friday: Art
